Since before Lucifer rebelled against his Christian God, we've been fascinated with evil.

The very idea of this wide-ranging entity (?) has been in evidence throughout the ages, and something of its aura has been utilised to great effect in our literature and films.

People love to be scared, we revel in it, and it doesn't mean we can't distinguish fact from fiction!
